Yves Saint Laurent’s Black Opium Floral Shock was released in 2017 and is the sister fragrance to the original Black Opium. The scent was created by Nathalie Lorson, Marie Salamagne, Olivier Cresp, and Honorine Blanc. At first whiff, the perfume undoubtedly carries heavier flora notes compared to the original. It’s crisp with notes of white flower and gardenia but also a little citrusy. By no means is this you’re typical light, overly floral, or fruity perfume, the obvious notes of coffee (some even say iced coffee) and white musk set it apart. To me it feel a lot more fresh but still sophisticated and a little sexy.
If you ever want to switch up from you’re typical Marc Jacob’s Daisy, I think this would be one to check out. The scent has amazing longevity because of the rich base notes and gradually fades throughout the day. I think this is the perfect fragrance for both day and night and no need for reapplication. The perfume is hands down my most complimented one and definitely causes a couple of double-takes when I walked down the street.
Black Opium Floral Shock has quickly become my favorite fragrance in my collection and my go-to and the perfect fragrance to start this spotlight series.
